Dear Friends and Family,
I'm helping raise funds to support research and programming for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). I am asking friends and family to join me in contributing to this fundraising effort. Thank you for being here and even considering taking part in this initiative.
My goal is to raise $5000, as well as race in the 2015 IRONMAN Lake Placid Ironman on Sunday, July 26, 2015. I will be competing in the event alongside three friends, as well as the entire MMRF Team for Cures.
Why am I raising funds for MMRF and prepraing for 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running? Like most of us, I have known too many friends and family members who have endured cancer. I have experienced the pain of loss and treatment and the graditude of survival. Along with that, I see the power of science with regards to medicine, surgery, and treatment. This July, I have decided to channel my energy and hope into a celebration of life and the incredible potential of our human bodies, while making an effort to move the needle (even a little bit) toward further cancer research.
As some of you may know, multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. The MMRF is making a difference with new treatments, receiving FDA approval, and tangible progress (these drugs have doubled the lifespan of myeloma patients). The money raised for the MNFF by myself and the MMRF Team for Cures will support this continued progress.
I hope you will consider joining me in making a donation and I invite you to check in with me to see progress made on both the fundraising and training fronts. Know that I appreciate your support in whatever form it may take.
